The Lakers Are Interested In Damian Lillard And Other NBA Superstars

It would seem that the Los Angeles Lakers are interested in Damian Lillard.

A recent rumor by Jovan Buha of The Athletic stated that the Los Angeles Lakers “had interest” in the Portland Trail Blazers franchise face, along with perennial All-Star Kevin Durant of the Brooklyn Nets and star Bradley Beal of the Washington Wizards.

In other news, I’m sick of riding the bus, and I think it would be lovely to have a brand-new BMW. But that’s a side note; let’s get back to the main subject here.

After naming players who would be more realistic trade possibilities earlier in the column, Buha then includes Lillard and the other major names as fantasy options. This season is being closely monitored in Los Angeles.

The Los Angeles Lakers have expressed interest in three of the NBA’s brightest stars: Kevin Durant, Damian Lillard, and Bradley Beal, in the event that any of the aforementioned players were to become available.

Don’t shoot the messenger; it appears like Buha is merely relaying information that he obtained from the front office of the Lakers. On the other hand, I believe that Harrison Faigen, one of our coworkers here at Silver Screen and Roll, is the most qualified person to quote regarding this topic.

He did an excellent job of analyzing it. I’m going to venture a guess and suggest that the Los Angeles Lakers “have interest” in Giannis Antetokounmpo, Luka Doncic, and Ja Morant as well. I’m going to take this chance. You are free to compile that anyway you see fit; I have no reason to doubt its validity.

Naturally, the Lakers are interested in Lillard, Durant, and Beal. On the other hand, having the means to land one of those guys is an altogether different topic, as Faigen points out in his writing. The Lakers’ greatest offer consists of an elderly Russell Westbrook and two picks in the first round of the NBA draft.

No thanks.

Lillard has returned to playing at an elite level, and the Trail Blazers are currently going in the right direction with a record of 16-12. During the Blazers’ annual company holiday party, something catastrophic would have to occur between general manager Joe Cronin and Lillard for the franchise great to “become available” (maybe too much eggnog leads to some unfiltered words during a debate about “Elf” vs. “Home Alone,” I don’t know their dynamic). Lillard could “become available” if the Blazers decide to trade him.

In the meantime, this report seems like nothing more than a Christmas Wish List that somehow got lost on its way to the North Pole and is now being read for our enjoyment. Have fun with it on your day off.
