Antalya, a city on the coast of Turkey, will play host to the FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship from Wednesday through Sunday, just three days after the conclusion of the men’s competition in Brazil. The tournament will include the top women’s club teams from across the world.

At Antalya 2022, there will be a total of ten matches played, with two taking place each day over the course of five days. The six clubs who are competing are divided into two pools of three teams each to compete in a round-robin format. The individuals who finish first and second in their respective pools will advance to the semifinals on Saturday. At the 15th iteration of the Women’s Club World Championship, matches for gold, silver, and bronze will decide who finishes on the podium. These matches will take place on Sunday.

Pool A

The first match of the competition will take place on Wednesday, December 14, at 16:30 (local time), which corresponds to 13:30 (UTC), and will see Eczacibasi taking on Dentil Praia. In addition, on Thursday at the same starting time, the Brazilian team will compete against Imoco. Then, on Friday at 16:00 (13:00), the teams from Istanbul and Conegliano will square off to determine the final standings in the pool.

Eczacibasi are one of the favorites to win the championship in 2022, despite the fact that they did not participate in the competition in 2021. Tijana Boskovic, who has won the title of Most Valuable Player at the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship twice, along with other international stars such as Maja Ognjenovic of Serbia, Simge Akoz and Hande Baladin of Turkey, Samanta Fabris of Croatia, and Irina Voronkova of Russia, will lead the Tigers as they compete for their third world title. The Tigers have previously won the title of World Champions in In addition, the club earned a silver in 2019 and a bronze in 2018, according to its record.

“We have spent the entirety of this week getting ready for our matches in the Club World Championship. Elif Sahin, a teenage player on Eczacibasi’s volleyball team, was quoted as saying, “We are really glad to show that we are a squad that can battle and earn results in every match.”

2022 winners of the silver medal at the South American Club Championship Dentil Praia will be participating in the Club World Championships for the fourth year in a row, however the team has never won a medal at any of the previous three editions of the event. In 2018, the club’s finest performance was a fourth-place finish. However, they are still undefeated in the Brazilian Superliga this season thanks to the presence of Ana Carolina Da Silva (also known as Carol), who is widely considered to be the best blocker in the world.

With universal striker Tainara Santos, who also won a silver medal with Brazil at the 2022 World Championship, and other top-level players like Anne Buijs of the Netherlands, Brayelin Martinez of the Dominican Republic, and Brazilian libero Suelen Pinto on the court, the team from Uberlandia has a very good chance of making it onto the podium for the first time at the Club World Championship.

Pool A will also be distinguished by the brilliant presence of Imoco, who won the silver medal in the competition the previous year. The dominant Italian team will compete in an effort to reclaim their place at the top of the world rankings. The Panthers were crowned club winners of the penultimate edition in 2019, but were dethroned in the following year.

However, they are back this year and are led by 2021 MVP Isabelle Haak. There is no question that the Italian club will strive for greatness in Antalya. They will do this by relying on a very potent lineup that features a Polish star setter named Joanna Wolosz, North American outside hitters Kelsey Robinson, Kathryn Plummer, and Alexa Gray, a Dutch middle blocker named Robin De Kruijf, and an Italian libero named Monica De Gennaro, amongst other players.

Pool B

The opening match of Pool B will be between VakifBank and Kuanysh, and it will take place on Wednesday at 19:30 local time. Both teams will be looking to get their respective seasons off to a strong start (16:30 UTC). The defending champions, Gerdau Minas, will face off against the challengers on the second day of the competition at 20:00 (17:00). On Friday at 19:00, the teams Minas and Kuanysh will compete against one another in the last match of Pool B. (16:00).

The odds are stacked against VakifBank taking first place in the pool, despite the fact that they are the current world, European, and Turkish champions. They are also the most decorated team in the history of the Club World Championships and have won a medal in each of their seven previous appearances, including gold in 2013, 2017, 2018, and 2021, silver in 2011, and bronze in 2016 and 2019.

In addition, they are the most decorated team in the history of the Club World Championships. Paola Egonu was named the Most Valuable Player of both the 2019 Volleyball Club World Championship and the 2018 Volleyball Nations League. This season, the VakifBank line-up is highlighted by the participation of Italian star opposite Paola Egonu.

Gabriela Guimaraes, a Brazilian outside who is also the new team captain, is another huge international star on coach Giovanni Guidetti’s roster. The roster also includes players from Turkey like Zehra Gunes and Cansu Ozbay, players from the United States like Chiaka Ogbogu and Kara Bajema, and an international player from the Netherlands named Nika Daalderop.

“We are going to compete in a hard event that will be a lot of fun for us. This year’s edition of the Club World Championship promises to be a challenging competition with a strong field of competitors. Cansu Ozbay, the playmaker for VakifBank, stated that the team’s objective is to win the championship once again. “I hope that our matches will be exciting and extremely pleasant to watch, and we look forward to seeing the fans in Antalya,” said the captain of the Antalya team.

Kuanysh, the club that won the Asian club championship, may be the underdog at their first Club World Championship, but they undoubtedly have what it takes to maybe surprise some of their more distinguished opponents. The setter for the Bulgarian national team, Lora Kitipova, is in charge of coordinating the offense for the squad. Maeva Orle, a French outside defender, and Tatyana Aldoshina, a Ukrainian opposite defender, are the two other international players on the Kuanysh roster.

The next Club World Championships will be Gerdau Minas’s fifth time competing in the event. After making it to the final in 1992 and again in 2018, they have a total of two silver medals from the previous four competitions. The year before, the team from Belo Horizonte earned the fourth place position. As the victors of the South American club competition in 2022, they earned a spot in this year’s competition.

Minas’s lineup is almost entirely composed of Brazilian athletes. Among them are two-time Olympic champion Thaisa Menezes, silver medalists at the 2022 World Championships Caroline Gattaz, Priscila Daroit, Kisy Nascimento, Julia Kudiess, and Nyeme Nunes; in addition, Kisy Nascimento and Julia Kudiess won silver. Yonkaira Pena, a Dominican Republic outside hitter, is the only player from a country other than Brazil on the Gerdau Minas roster.

According to Nicola Negro, the Italian head coach of the squad, the fact that Minas competed in the Club World Championship for the fourth year in a row is evidence that the Minas initiative has been successful. It is always a great honor for us to compete against some of the top teams in the world. We are aware that we will have competition from teams who play volleyball at the top level, but it goes without saying that we will be traveling to Turkey with the goal of bringing home a medal.
