Both Microsoft and Sony are being coy with the pricing of their next-generation consoles, but recently a handful of Amazon listings seem to have leaked the possibility of a £599.99 (approximately $750) retail price for the PS5 in the UK. According to the retailer, however, those listings aren’t accurate.
In a statement to IGN UK, a representative from Amazon UK explained that the listings were simply using dummy values, and that their figures aren’t accurate. The listings went live in error too, leading to a flurry or rumors that Sony might be returning to a price point similar to that of the original PS3 at launch.
Speculation is rife around the pricing of both new consoles, with neither Sony nor Microsoft seemingly wanting to be the first to show their hand. The closest we’ve come is estimating the price of manufacturing, with parts shortages and specialized hardware reportedly pushing the PS5 up to $450 per unit in production. These prices aren’t always indicative of retail pricing, since Sony can choose to sell consoles at either a loss or profit.
